What Is a Gingival Graft?
A gingival graft is a procedure designed to replace gum tissue that has been lost or receded. When gum recession occurs, the tissue advances down the length of the root, exposing this portion of the tooth and increasing its vulnerability to damage and decay.
Many individuals experience tooth sensitivity, as these now exposed root surfaces have hollow tubules that connect with the nerve center of the tooth. The roots are structurally softer than the crown portion of the tooth, and are therefore at increased risk of sustaining abrasion or decay. Dr. Narani can solve this issue by placing a gingival graft over the exposed root surfaces.
